Poor support and quality
Hello to all. I must start by saying I have no ulterior motive for this except to inform and edify. I will try to keep this short. A couple years back I purchased the TRX7 as I am an avid four wheeler and explorer. After spending over six hundred dollars I felt comfortable with the direction I took with the new device. As time wore on and as I began using the device its shortcomings began adding up. I’ll abbreviate my post by giving some recent disappointments.
First about 6 weeks back I tried to get support and left my info for the Magellan team responsible for TRX product technical support. I did not received the slightest hint of communication them. I left all my info and problem I was having (uploading GPX files) twice, very clearly on the voicemail for the support group in question. This was very disappointing to say the least considering the cost of this product. Due to the fact I was extremely busy preparing for my most recent trip I did not find an opportunity to try a second time.
The trip in question was a four wheeling trip to Canada. A couple friends and I video logged our trip through the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail. I used the TRX7 to log the trail. To say a couple frustrating things happened would be completely understating things.
First the downloaded satellite imagery was not there for any portion of the trail. Second, the mapping was a bust. Multiple times along the trail the bread crumbs started from scratch, meaning the distance started from zero. Then it would go back to measuring from the beginning of the trail at will. Back and forth, back and forth like that for the last two thirds of the trail. This despite the battery never going dead or any other condition that would cause the device to go completely dead.
Now theoretically I believed that when I was done it would show the whole track mapped but instead only shows 27 miles or so. A complete and crushing disappointment to us!
I put it to you, what good is this product if you can’t do what it was designed and intended for. It did not upload any satellite imagery despite hours and hours of me doing so before my trip. I pay for this Magellan! Then it didn’t do the absolute minimum of what it was designed for. We video logged this trip and this may have been a great showcase for Magellan and its TRX7 device as it will be for other products that did perform as designed. After posting our video we expect over twenty thousand and hopeful for over one hundred thousand views within the first year and have plans to post more trips subsequently. These views will be from the very people Magellan will want to put their best foot forward to.
I can’t tell you how much I wanted to support a product that I paid so much for but sadly I will have to be at best mute about the fancy tablet affixed to my dash. A true pity..

Let's face it, the TRX7 product is CRAP. It is non-intuitive and the documentation is poor. Support sucks. Software sucks. Satellite downloads are no longer supported. Internet pages are impossible to use normally. After several years of attempting to make it functional, throwing it against the wall many times, swearing, reinstalling software, studying support issues, I give up. I have never been more aggravated by an expensive electronic device and the lack of support from the Magellan people. I have a strong work history in software development and troubleshooting, but I would rather just shoot this device and post as many poor reviews as possible.
Shame on Magellan.
